Port Barton, San Vincente, Palawan, Philippines — Halfway between the bustling hubs of El Nido and Puerto Princesa lies Port Barton, a hidden gem in the heart of Palawan. This laid-back coastal town in San Vicente strikes the perfect balance, remote enough to feel like a true escape, yet blissfully free from the crowds that flock to its more famous neighbors.
But what really sets Port Barton apart isn’t just the postcard-worthy beaches or the coral gardens that look like they were painted in technicolor. It’s the easygoing, come-as-you-are atmosphere that instantly pulls you in. I’ve honestly lost track of how many sunsets I’ve soaked in here, drink in hand, watching locals and travelers melt into the same unhurried rhythm of island life. And despite the steady rise in tourism, Port Barton has held on to its authentic charm.
Imagine this: you’re burned out from work, overwhelmed by the city noise, and longing for some peace. For me, Port Barton is that place.

🌴 Port Barton Overview

When visiting Port Barton, remember you’re heading to a remote slice of paradise surrounded by mountains and sea. Its laid-back vibe is part of the charm, so expect things to move a little slower than your usual city pace. Here’s everything you need to know before packing your bags:
🌍 Geography
Port Barton is a coastal barangay within the municipality of San Vicente. It’s about a 4–5 hour land trip from either El Nido or Puerto Princesa.
🎣 Culture
Once a traditional fishing community, Port Barton is steadily embracing tourism and hospitality thanks to its growing popularity. Still, the local charm remains wonderfully intact.
🗣️ Language
Most locals speak Tagalog and basic English, so you’ll get by just fine.
✈️ Flights
There are no direct flights to Port Barton. Instead, you’ll need to fly to either Puerto Princesa, which is served by Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia, or El Nido, which is served exclusively by AirSWIFT. From either airport, you’ll hop on a van and make your way to town.
🚐 Transportation
From Puerto Princesa or El Nido, simply ask locals for the van terminal headed to Port Barton. Once you arrive in town, getting around is easy, you can explore on foot, rent a motorcycle for chasing waterfalls, or rent a kayak or hire a private boat for beach trips and island-hopping.
🏝️ Activities & Tours
Island-hopping is the star of the show here, giving you a front-row seat to quiet islands, white-sand beaches, and vibrant reefs. If you prefer to stay on land, motorcycle tours can lead you to nearby waterfalls and even all the way to Long Beach in San Vicente, a scenic adventure in its own right.
🍽️ Food
Port Barton isn’t exactly a foodie hotspot, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised. There are some great Italian restaurants, cozy beachfront bars, and sunset-ready drink spots.
🏨 Hotels & Accommodation
Most stay options range from ₱1,000 to ₱7,000 per night, covering budget-friendly bungalows to comfy mid-range stays.
🌍 Tourists
Port Barton attracts mostly foreign travelers who love its quiet, off-grid vibe. Filipino tourists often prefer livelier destinations like El Nido or Boracay, so yes, you’ll definitely feel the slower pace here.
📶 Cellular Network
Globe and Smart both work fine for calls and texts, but mobile data can be moody. If you’re planning Zoom calls, double-check that your hotel’s Wi-Fi won’t betray you.
💸 ATM & Credit Card
There are ATMs, but they occasionally run out of cash or go offline (island life, remember?). Some establishments accept credit cards, but carrying enough cash is still the safest bet, especially for tours and smaller vendors.
☂️ Best Time To Visit Port Barton

☀️ Peak Season (December to April)
These sunny months are Port Barton at its best, calm seas and clear skies. It’s the ideal time to visit, which is why most travelers flock here.
⛅ Shoulder Season (November & May)
These in-between months mark the shift to and from the rainy season. There are fewer tourists, the vibe is quieter, and you might score better deals. Just keep an eye on the weather forecast, a little planning goes a long way.
🌧️ Off-Peak Season (June to October)
This is when the rains settle in. If you’re traveling from abroad and don’t come to the Philippines often, it’s best to avoid these months. The rain can be persistent and may limit the activities that make Port Barton shine in the summer.

🍹 Where To Eat & Drink In Port Barton

On my last few visits, I noticed something delightful happening in Port Barton: the food scene is quietly leveling up. And let’s be honest, great meals have a funny way of turning a good vacation into a memorable one. Here are some of the places that truly stood out:
★★★★★ Sicily
📍 Bonifacio St, San Vicente, 5309 Palawan
If you love Italian food, this spot is a revelation. Every dish we tried was impressive, but the lasagna and bruschetta were on a whole other level. I’m not exaggerating when I say this might be the best lasagna in the Philippines, and I’ve tried more than I’d like to admit.
★★★★★ Trattoria NERO d’avola
📍 Risal St, San Vicente, Palawan
Another gem for Italian cuisine. Their salads are fresh and flavorful, but the Bolognese and Gnocchi are my personal favorites. Comfort food at its finest.
★★★★★ Ausan Beach Front Cottages and Restaurant
📍 Purok Pag-asa, Ballesteros Street, Port Barton, San Vicente, 5309 Palawan
This place serves simple, home-style Filipino and Western dishes, nothing fancy, just consistently good. It’s my default dinner spot when I can’t decide where to eat. And with cocktails by the beach at sunset? It’s the kind of evening you’ll want to stretch out a little longer.
★★★★☆ Holiday Suites Port Barton
📍 Purok Pag-asa, Ballesteros Street, Port Barton, San Vicente, 5309 Palawan
Four stars purely for their breakfast buffet, which offers a surprisingly wide spread. Their à la carte dishes is a bit inconsistent though. But the beach view? One of the best in town.
★★★★★ Gelateria di Barton
📍 Purok Maunlad, Port Barton, San Vicente, 5309 Palawan
Right in front of El Busero Inn, this tiny gelato stall serves beautifully crafted flavors. The coconut and the pineapple-basil are absolute must-tries. Trust me, you’ll think about them long after you’ve left.
★★★★☆ Barton Bistro
📍 Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan
This is the place to be as the sun starts dropping. Plenty of beach chairs, breezy al fresco seating, and a menu of drinks that could keep you there longer than planned. The food and service could use a little polish, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it.
★★★★☆ FLOW pool bar & resto
📍 Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan
Live music, a pool, and a solid selection of drinks, what more do you need for a fun night out? The cocktails hit the spot, and the food is consistently good, making it a lively choice for groups.
★★★★★ Island Hopping Tour Food
📍 Port Barton, San Vicente, Palawan
I have to give a special mention to the local tour guides and boatmen. The meals they prepare during island-hopping trips, grilled seafood, pork, chicken, pancit, and beautifully arranged fruit, are always outstanding. They even adjust for dietary preferences. It’s homemade island comfort food at its best.

✈️ Flight To Palawan

Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) is the main gateway to Palawan, handling most flights to and from the province. One-way fares from Manila usually range from PHP 1,500 to PHP 6,000 on AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines, depending on how early you book. If you plan ahead or catch one of those glorious seat sales, you can often score the lower end of that range. The flight itself takes just about an hour, with departures scheduled almost every couple of hours throughout the day.
For a more direct route to northern Palawan, you can fly from Manila straight to El Nido Airport (ENI) via AirSWIFT. Tickets generally fall between PHP 6,500 and PHP 9,000 one-way. I suggest checking Google Flights to compare schedules and prices. An early morning flight is ideal, letting you reach Port Barton just in time for hotel check-in and maybe even a late lunch by the beach. Below are the estimated flight hours for international visitors.

I’ve only stayed at two places during my trips to Port Barton, but both left such a great impression that I can confidently recommend them for a comfortable and memorable stay.

This budget-friendly choice ranges from PHP 2,000 to PHP 3,500 per night for two adults. The amenities are simple, but the staff more than makes up for it with their warm hospitality. Their beachfront restaurant is also one of my favorite spots in town, convenient, relaxed, and always welcoming.

⭐ Things To Do & Places To Visit

A trip to Port Barton can be whatever you want it to be, a slow, easygoing escape or an adventure-filled getaway, depending on how you craft your itinerary. Here are some activities worth adding to your list:
🛥️ Island Hopping Tour
⛵ BOOK The TOUR THROUGH GETYOURGUIDE
You can join a shared island-hopping tour by asking your hotel receptionist or simply wandering along the beach, where locals offer different tour options. I recommend choosing Tour A, or as many call it, the most popular tour, because it covers all the classic island-hopping spots in Port Barton. Tours typically start around 9 AM and wrap up by 5 PM. Lunch is included, but you’re free to bring extra snacks or drinks if you want to nibble between swims. Read on for a closer look at each stop on this beautiful route.
🐠 Fantastic Reef

Fantastic Reef is an underwater garden brimming with colorful corals and marine life. While some sections have suffered from bleaching and past typhoons, it’s still a lovely snorkeling spot. Just keep in mind that visibility can drop during the rainy season, and currents may get a bit stronger.
🏖️ Paradise Island

Paradise Island lives up to its name, and then some. It’s especially magical when your boat arrives before anyone else does, giving you the whole stretch of soft white sand to yourself. With dramatic rock formations as a backdrop and clear waters perfect for swimming, it’s a place you won’t want to leave. If you’re lucky, a turtle might glide by to say hello.
🐢 Turtle Spot

This is easily one of the tour’s highlights. There are several turtle zones around Port Barton, and our guide brought us to one near Exotic Island. We swam alongside a couple of large turtles for what felt like fifteen minutes, but honestly, when you’re that excited, time becomes a blur. It’s an experience that sticks with you long after the trip.
🐚 Exotic Island

If your boatmen skip Paradise Island for the lunch break, you’ll likely stop at Exotic Island instead. This spot has yet another postcard-perfect white-sand beach. Swim a little farther out and you’ll find beautiful corals waiting beneath the surface.
🌊 Twin Reef

Twin Reef is another vibrant coral area, home to plenty of colorful marine life. While it has also seen some damage over the years, it remains a breathtaking snorkeling stop. During our visit, we even spotted a map puffer gliding between the corals.
⭐ Star Fish Island

Starfish Island isn’t actually an island but a sandbar that reveals itself in the late afternoon during low tide. It’s named after the many starfish living in the area, and the sandbar itself forms a shape that looks a bit like a jellyfish, or maybe a stingray, depending on the tide and your imagination. A gentle reminder: please don’t touch or lift the starfish out of the water, as it can harm them.
🚤 Private Boat Rental

One of my favorite things to do in Port Barton is to spend an entire day on one of the nearby islands. You can pick whichever one catches your eye or ask your hotel receptionist or tour guide for a recommendation. If you want my personal pick, go for Maxima Island, it’s easily one of my top spots in Port Barton. Renting a private boat for the day costs around PHP 9,000, lunch included, which becomes a great deal if you’re sharing the trip with friends.
🏝️ Maxima Island

Maxima Island is the definition of a tropical escape. Although it’s privately owned, it’s open to visitors and often feels wonderfully uncrowded. The island features a beautiful stretch of white-sand beach and a calm coastline that’s perfect for swimming. If you hike up the small hill, you’ll get a lovely view of nearby Exotic Island. On the opposite side of Maxima, a short walk leads you to a quiet, tucked-away beach surrounded by swaying coconut trees. It’s peaceful, scenic, and easily one of my favorite spots in the area.
🛶 Kayak Route

Another great way to spend the day is by renting a kayak and exploring the nearby beaches. It might look like a workout at first, but the views make every paddle worth it. Most hotels rent out kayaks for PHP 600 to 800 for the entire day, and each one fits two people, perfect for couples, friends, or anyone who wants moral support mid-paddle. Here are two must-visit stops along the route:
🥥 Coconut Beach

From the main beach, paddle along the coastline to your left (or follow Google Maps if you’d rather not rely on vibes alone). You’ll know you’ve reached Coconut Beach when you spot the thick grove of coconut trees lining the shore. The coastline isn’t ideal for swimming, but it’s a peaceful place to rest and enjoy the scenery. And if luck is on your side, you might even meet the friendly giant pink pig that occasionally wanders around.
🤍 White Beach

Your final stop is White Beach, a private stretch of sand with a small entrance fee. This spot is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and generally pretending you own the place. The sand is powdery white, the water is clear, and the crowd is usually minimal. You can also order food and drinks from the resort, an ideal reward after your kayak adventure.
🏍️ Motorcycle Land Tour

The landscape of Port Barton is just as breathtaking as its beaches and coral reefs. One of the best ways to explore its wilder side is by renting a motorcycle and heading out to the nearby waterfalls and viewpoints. You can drive it yourself or, if you’re not comfortable on a bike, hire a local guide to take the wheel while you ride as a passenger. Guides often know the shortcuts, the smoother paths, and the most scenic stops, which makes the journey feel less like a commute and more like an adventure.
There are three main destinations to visit, but honestly, the drive itself is part of the experience. You’ll pass sweeping mountain views, dense jungle, dramatic cliffs, and glimpses of the coastline along the way. Here are the top spots worth visiting:
💧 Bigaho Falls

Hidden deep within the lush jungle, Bigaho Falls is a refreshing reward after a short, leafy hike. The freshwater pool at the base is the perfect place to cool off after the trek, simple, quiet, and incredibly satisfying.
🌄 Ningning Viewpoint

Ningning Viewpoint gives you a sweeping, bird’s-eye view of San Vicente’s iconic Long Beach. From up here, the long stretch of sand looks impossibly pristine, framed by greenery and sparkling water. It’s one of those views that makes the ride instantly worth it.
🏖️ Long Beach

San Vicente’s famous Long Beach is exactly what its name suggests, a massive ribbon of white sand stretching along the coastline. Our guide brought us to a quiet, less-visited section where we enjoyed a peaceful swim far from the crowds.
📝 Itinerary & Budget

Here’s a sample itinerary and budget to guide your trip, but feel free to tweak it based on your travel style. My pace is usually a mix of relaxed days and more active ones, and I tend to splurge on food and drinks. If you’re planning a longer vacation, consider combining your Port Barton visit with a trip to El Nido.

🔒 Final Thoughts

The charm of Port Barton goes far beyond its scenery. What makes this place truly special to me is how it feels like stepping back into the Philippines of the ’90s, simple, unhurried, and blissfully untouched by the heavy commercialism you find in busier towns. Imagine this: you’re burned out from work, overwhelmed by the city noise, and longing for some peace. For me, Port Barton is that place.
★★★★☆ Food
Port Barton doesn’t have a booming food scene, but the quality is surprisingly good. The Italian restaurants alone are worth the trip, and the seafood prepared by the boatmen during island-hopping tours could make any foodie smile.
☆☆☆☆☆ Culture
There isn’t much in terms of formal cultural tourism, but simply observing local life is an experience in itself. Sometimes culture is best felt and observed, not toured, wouldn’t you agree?
★★★★★ Nature
Beaches, coral gardens, jungles, mountains, forests, Port Barton is a paradise for anyone who finds comfort in nature’s quiet beauty.
★★★★★ Beach, Surfing, & Underwater
There are no surfing spots here. Port Barton is all about peaceful white-sand beaches and vibrant underwater wildlife.
★★★☆☆ Nightlife
You’ll find a handful of nice bars where you can enjoy a drink without the chaos of bigger islands like Boracay or El Nido. It keeps that calm island charm. And truly, the best time for a seaside drink is right before sunset.
★★★★☆ Relaxation
Relaxation depends on how you plan your trip, but for me, nothing beats sitting on a quiet beach with a drink in hand, watching the sunset.
★★★☆☆ Activities
Most activities revolve around the beach and nature.
